Description
Animal knights parody jousting: a squirrel on an antelope fights an ape on a unicorn; apes also joust on a camel and horse. Brunetto Latini, Li Livres dou Tresor, BL Yates Thompson MS 19 ff.3r and 18r.
Evidence of adoption or transmission
Two related animal jousts are documented in one illustrated copy of Li Livres dou Tresor.
What remains uncertain
Multiple images by a manuscript workshop do not independently demonstrate adoption of this precise template outside that production. The broader animal-inversion family has better evidence elsewhere.
