About the work
Imported from the workbook's Full reassessment sheet, revised 7 October 2026 (record ID 45). The assessment below is the workbook's comparative judgment under its stated criteria; source links and limits are retained.
Workbook assessment: Spread only
Date or witness: Late 13th–14th centuries; secure catalogue example c.1350
Region: France, England and Low Countries
Workbook date-sort bounds: 1290 CE to 1400 CE; these bounds are not automatically invention or disappearance dates.
Description
Musical instruments connect to exposed posteriors. Morgan MS G.24 f.1r (c.1350, northern France/Belgium) explicitly catalogues a man playing a trumpet from his anus; Maastricht Hours supplies further anal-instrument variations.
Evidence of adoption or transmission
Anal-instrument imagery has independent manuscript witnesses and variations.
What remains uncertain
The sources establish professional manuscript production and elite private devotion, not non-elite uptake. Modern sharing and edited internet versions must be separated from medieval circulation.
