Description

Inky paw prints cross a government register in the Dubrovnik archives, famously noticed by historian Emir O. Filipović. They became a modern image of cats interrupting work across the centuries.

Evidence of adoption or transmission

Paw marks survive on an archival document.

What remains uncertain

An accident, with uncertain mark date, supplies no evidence of intentional cultural replication or medieval social transmission.

Workbook revision note: Reassessed using grassroots criteria
